Susanna W. Gold, Ph.D.

Susanna Gold received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and her M.A. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  She specializes in 19th- and 20th-century American art with particular interest in issues of race and exhibitions.  Her work has appeared in Civil War History, American Quarterly, and Biography: An Interdisciplinary Quarterly, and she is currently at work on a book on the 1876 Centennial Exhibition which she has pursued with research fellowships from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Winterthur Museum and Library.  She was also recently awarded a 2013 Knight Arts Challenge Grant for her graduate student-curated exhibition project and programming on the art of Charles Searles.
