Kathryn Schlavi (Tyler MEd, 2011) works as a socially-engaged artist, educator, and art education consultant.  She collaborates with communities to create unique gathering spaces meant to enhance learning, encourage communication, celebrate space, and inspire change. In her artistic work, she creates event-based projects created through handmade tents, zines, mobile structures, parades, and more using media such as found objects, fiber, and costumes.  As an educator, Kate works with schools, non-profits, and museums facilitating artist-in-residence projects based on creating collaborative community creations such as murals, parades, zines, and more.  As a consultant, she runs professional development workshops for teaching artists on writing arts integration lessons; she works with classroom teachers to incorporate art making into their lessons, and writes arts integration curriculum for clients.

Kate believes in arts integration, and is proud to be an artist educator who creates new and exciting creative projects in many schools in the area.  She finds strength in collaboration by working with educators in different subjects, community members, and other artists, both her art and art education work has grown significantly by what she has learned from individuals in other professions.  Kate believes in the healing power of creating celebratory, creative spaces, and creates those spaces everywhere.
