Norman Levinson, Honorary Art History Alumnus
May 28, 1931 - January 15, 2016
Norman Levinson was a passionate lover of art and art history. At the Tyler School of Art and Architecture, we remember him well for the eighty-four art history classes he took (yes, classes, not credits, and he had signed up for an eighty-fifth course this spring semester!). All of the faculty and numerous students enjoyed his enthusiasm, collegiality and knowledge. He exemplified what it means to live a life of the mind; our community is richer for his involvement in it, and he will be missed.
Norm graduated from the University of the Arts (then Philadelphia College of Art) with a major in illustration, and leaves behind a substantial body of his own professional work - paintings, pastel drawings, and photography. He exhibited in various galleries around the city, including the Swan Gallery, The Chestnut Hill Gallery, The Carol Schwartz Gallery, and the Greater Norristown Art League.
