Information for all Art Education students pursuing PA Teacher Certification

Before entering schools as an observer, intern, or student teacher, all students must submit criminal records and tuburculosis clearances. Information on obtaining these clearances can be found here and at Temple's College of Education website

In order to place interns and student teachers with co-operative teachers in schools in the Philadelphia area, prospective interns and student teachers must submit an application. The application due dates are March 1st for those wishing to intern or student teach in Fall semester, October 1st for those wishing to intern or student teach in Spring semester.

Students pursuing PA Teacher Certification, whether at the undergraduate or graduate level, must complete internship and student teaching assignments. In order to be placed in an internship, passing scores on the PAPA exam are required of undergraduate students (unless exempted by prior SAT scores).

Passing scores on the Praxis II exam are required for PA Teacher Certification. Students may choose to take the Praxis II exam prior to student teaching and submit those scores along with their student teaching application, or they may choose to take the exam after student teaching. Temple University cannot process PA Teacher Certification without the Praxis II passing scores, but they can issue a diploma at the completion of the degree. It is recommended to take the Praxis II exam as soon as possible to speed the PA Teacher Certification process.

Information about both PAPA and Praxis II exams can be found here
