Author: issarevell

Recent Tyler alum Jamie Forslund (M.Ed. '15) presented at the 2016 National Art Education Association Conference in Chicago, IL! This presentation discussed her current research conducted in Philadelphia area public high schools. Forslund observed and interviewed art teachers and high school English Language Learner students in order to better understand the needs of ELL students, the needs of art teachers, and how both parties can be better served. The information gleaned from the study helped attendees gain perspective on how ELL students fit into the culture of a high school art classroom and learn how to provide scaffolding to contribute to the teaching skills needed to address this growing and vital population. Tyler Architecture Alum Build

Author: Michael Carwile

Tyler Architecture alumni build.  An alum, himself a member of a design-build firm, recently let me know how satisfying it is to find fellow Tyler architecture grads in fabrication shops, construction companies, and other design-build firms across the city, building all kinds of crazy things.  Here’s one of their stories. Michael Sebright, B. Arch. 2002, (pictured center) has been in the design-build world for over a decade.  The economic swing of the past several years may have made his trajectory less straightforward than he intended, but it also has given him the chance to truly consider what he wanted from the construction industry.  Fortunately for Michael, he also has the entrepreneurial sense to begin to make that vision into a reality. Marisa Lombardo Repurposes Antiques for The Artemisian

Author: Kayla Cropper

With an interest in metals and sculpture, Marisa Lombardo decided to enroll in Tyler's jewelry program. "The demands and size of that kind of work were high," Lombardo said. "So I wanted to take that knowledge and put it towards jewelry." During her first year in the jewelry program, Lombardo took a printmaking class. "I had a really difficult time with jewelry, but loved the printmaking department," Lombardo said. (Preview of The Artemisian's Fall 2014 Collection) She decided that her aesthetic worked better in 2-D and made the immediate decision to switch her major.
