Professional Development for Teachers at 'A Taste of Tyler'

Tyler recently invited 40 Philadelphia School District teachers to 'A Taste of Tyler', a set of professional development workshops delivered by Tyler faculty. Workshops included a therapeutic bead collage exercise, a book-making demonstration, a printmaking demonstration (pictured above), a community arts exercise, and an exploration of 'play' in the classroom. Dr. Lisa Kay to Lead Workshop at the 2015 Art and Special Education Symposium

Tyler School of Art's Dr. Lisa Kay will be presenting an afternoon workshop titled 'Circle of Wholeness' at this year's 2015 Art and Special Education Symposium at Moore. Participants will create miniature mandalas using mixed media and found objects. Learn about a trauma-informed creative arts curriculum for adolescents who have experienced adverse childhood events.             Read More

Early Career Art Teachers at Tyler

The Early Career Art Teachers group hosts gatherings for early career art teachers and recent art ed alums to meet each other and offer support in the challenging first years of teaching. Meetings are planned once a month, when teachers discuss ideas, eat snacks, troubleshoot situations, share and swap materials, learn how to navigate school districts, hear about jobs, show student artwork and more. Currently in its 5th year running, ECAT has scheduled gatherings on the first Thursday of each month. Art Education Field Trip to United Cerebral Palsy of Philadelphia

Graduate and undergraduate Art Education students in Dr. Lisa Kay's Special Needs Class recently toured United Cerebral Palsy of Philadelphia, where they met with Tim Lefens, artist and founder of the A.R.T. (Art Realization Technologies). The students were able to observe many artists with disabilites working in the on-site art studio. Several students commented that the A.R.T. program was incredible to witness, and that it was amazing to watch the artists create and express! It was a wonderful opportunity to see art and art education in an entirely new way. Read More
