Position Summary 

The Design & Illustration Department at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor position beginning with the Fall 2026 semester. We seek a dynamic candidate with deep expertise in advanced technologies, including AR, VR, MR, and AI-assisted tools, who actively incorporates these innovations into their creative work. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of research and practice at the intersection of design, illustration and technology, utilizing computational design techniques, coding, and sustainable practices to shape immersive, forward-thinking experiences. They will also demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive teaching and curriculum development, preparing students for the evolving future of design and illustration and contributing to our mission of academic excellence and societal impact.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Graphic and Interactive Design, User Experience and User Interface Design and Illustration and Emerging Media. 
  • Lead the integration of emerging technologies into the curriculum by monitoring industry trends, identifying relevant tools and methodologies, and collaborating with faculty to ensure courses remain current, rigorous, and future-focused. 
  • Develop and oversee initiatives (such as workshops, partnerships, or faculty development sessions) that equip students and colleagues to engage meaningfully with new technologies. 
  • Conduct scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed venues. 
  • Seek external funding to support research activities. 
  • Mentor and advise students from different backgrounds. 
  • Contribute to departmental, college, and university service.
Qualifications

Required:

  • A terminal degree (MFA or equivalent) in design, illustration or a related field.  
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the university level, with evidence of teaching excellence.  
  • Expertise in advanced design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe AfterEffects, Blender, Cinema 4D) as well as new and emerging design platforms, tools, and technologies.  
  • ·Demonstrated expertise in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR), with a proven track record of incorporating these technologies into design and illustration projects. The ideal candidate will actively create immersive, interactive experiences and leverage AR/VR/MR environments in their work, showcasing their direct application in professional or creative contexts.  
  • Knowledge of generative design and AI-assisted design tools, including but not limited to OpenAI’s tools, MidJourney, and others that transform design processes.  
  • Knowledge of front-end coding languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and frameworks that enhance visual design and interactivity.  
  • Experience with computational design techniques and the ability to integrate design with emerging programming tools and platforms, such as creative coding environments. 
  • Expertise in identifying and researching new design methodologies and tools, and an ability to publish or present findings at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. Candidate will have a proven track record or potential for high-impact research in design, illustration, technology, and their intersection.  
  • Understanding of the ethical considerations in emerging technologies, including AI, AR/VR, data privacy, and intellectual property. Candidate will also have knowledge of sustainable design practices, and the role technology can play in advancing environmental and social responsibility.  
  • Experience teaching or mentoring in technology-driven design disciplines.  
  • Ability to develop curriculum that integrates new technologies into traditional design and illustration practices.  
  • Ability to bring real-world technological advancements into the classroom through guest speakers, workshops, or partnerships.  
  • Strong background in leading or contributing to groundbreaking design or illustration projects that leverage technology demonstrated in their professional portfolio.
  • Commitment to creating inclusive, accessible spaces for all students.

The Design & Illustration Department at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction in Visual Design with a UX/UI Focus beginning with the Fall 2026 semester. This two-year, non-tenure track faculty appointment has the possibility of renewal. We seek a dynamic designer and educator with expertise in user experience and interface design grounded in strong visual design foundations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency across the UX process—research, prototyping, and design implementation—paired with excellence in visual communication, typography, and motion. They will also play a key role in shaping the curriculum for Tyler’s new BFA in User Experience and User Interface Design and the Minor in UX/UI Design, preparing students for the evolving future of design that bridges creativity, technology, and user-centered thinking.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses across the department’s programs, including Graphic and Interactive Design, User Experience and User Interface Design, and Illustration and Emerging Media.
  • Develop and maintain curriculum for the new BFA in User Experience and User Interface Design and the UX/UI Design Minor, ensuring courses remain current and aligned with evolving practices in UX/UI, product design, and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with faculty to strengthen shared coursework in visual design, typography, motion design and UX/UI design.
  • Stay current with industry developments and emerging tools to ensure coursework reflects contemporary design practice and professional standards.
  • Mentor and advise students from different backgrounds.
  • Contribute to departmental, college, and university service.
Qualifications

Required:

  • A terminal degree (MFA or equivalent) in design or a related field, or significant professional experience in UX/UI or product design.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in UX/UI, interaction, or product design.
  • Proficiency across the UX process, including user research, concept development, prototyping, testing, and post-launch iteration.
  • Experience working directly with developers, product teams, or clients to bring digital products to life.
  • Strong foundation in visual design, including typography, layout, motion, and visual hierarchy, with the ability to apply these principles across both digital and traditional media.
  • Expertise in accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience using industry-standard tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite to create user-centered, visually engaging interfaces.
  • Ability to teach and develop courses that connect visual design with UX/UI and product design principles, as well as general design and motion design courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to staying current with evolving industry practices, tools, and technologies.

Position Summary

Tyler School of Art and Architecture’s Art History Department invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026. The department seeks a candidate whose research is centered on either the ancient Greek or Roman world with a specialty in archaeology and/or emerging technologies and ethical issues related to collections. The department is especially interested in cross-cultural encounters and exchanges, examining the ways in which art is produced and circulates through networks of trade and immigration, and how its discourse is formed by the dynamics of race, colonialism, post-colonialism, and globalization. The ability to make links to Temple University’s Rome campus is desirable.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to global approaches to the field of art history and have an active research profile. The applicant’s research and teaching would complement current departmental expertise and contribute to the Department’s efforts to diversify the curriculum, on the undergraduate and graduate level and contribute to our mission of academic excellence, innovative research, and inclusive education.

Responsibilities

We seek a scholar who would teach a range of undergraduate courses, from introductory to upper-level, and graduate courses that would appeal to the variety of disciplines housed within Tyler School of Art. The applicant is expected to maintain an active role in the MA and PhD programs within the Department, including mentoring and advising students from different backgrounds. The standard teaching load is 2/2. The applicant should show evidence of scholarly research, including publication in peer-reviewed venues. Evidence of external funding to support research activities is highly desirable. The applicant is expected to contribute to departmental, college, and university service.

PhD in art history or a related field by the time of hire. Proven capacity for research potential, engaged and excellent teaching and a commitment to creating inclusive and accessible spaces for all students.

The Art History Department consists of ten full-time faculty, with specialties ranging from Iron Age Anatolia to Contemporary, western Asia to the Americas, who focus on inclusive and global perspectives in the study of the history of art. We offer a bachelor’s and master’s and PhD degrees. The Department of Art at Tyler School of Art and Architecture invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning Fall, 2026. The successful candidate will serve as Program Head of the Glass Program.  We seek an accomplished artist and educator whose practice and teaching engage the evolving field of glass within contemporary art, design, craft, and material studies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate broad technical expertise, a commitment to inclusive pedagogy, leadership in sustainability, and an understanding of the international glass community, while contributing to our mission of academic excellence, innovative research, and inclusive education.

The Art Department encompasses a wide range of philosophies and practices, ranging from cutting-edge contemporary methods to historic processes, and is grounded in a philosophy of social commitment within the ever-evolving fields of hybrid practices for creative investigation and expression. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of glass materials and processes with a demonstrated ability to position glass within contemporary art and craft discourses. Candidates who can expand beyond the institutional canon of glass to include a broader social, political, cultural, or artistic context are particularly desirable. The ideal candidate will be influential in shaping the future of the discipline. A professional exhibition record is required.

The successful candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to teaching. The position requires teaching a variety of glass courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as evidence of successful experience with administration and program management, and leadership potential. The workload is comprised of teaching and instruction, and service to the program, department, and college. Position responsibilities also include mentoring students, serving on MFA thesis committees, engaging in curriculum development, contributing to department and program meetings, and participation in end-of-semester reviews with students. Presence on campus at least three days per week is expected. Since 1935, Tyler School of Art and Architecture has offered students the combination of a world-renowned faculty and the resources of Temple University, a large, urban research institution. Tyler’s programs encompass a wide range of areas in the study of art, design, art history, art education, architecture, and the built environment.   • Mentor BFA, MFA, and interdisciplinary graduate students, fostering critical inquiry and inclusive practices.
  • Maintain an active record of creative research, exhibitions, publications, and professional activity at the national and international levels. 
  • Serve as Program Head of the Glass Program
  • Contribute to the program’s leadership in sustainability and environmentally responsible making practices.

Qualifications
