Beril Camur

PhD Student Art History

Beril Camur is a first-year Ph.D. student specializing in Bronze Age Anatolia. Her research interests center on the social, political, and administrative worlds of Bronze Age Anatolia, with particular attention to the relationship between material culture and textual evidence. Drawing on both archaeological and language-based approaches, her work takes a multidisciplinary perspective to questions about social organization, identity, administrative practices, and cross-cultural interaction in ancient Anatolia.

Beril holds an M.A. in Archaeology from Bilkent University, where she wrote her thesis, The Socio-Political Structure of Western Anatolia during the (L)BA. She also holds an M.A. in Sociology from Collegium Civitas in Warsaw, Poland. Her sociology thesis, A Qualitative Exploration of Gender Inequities in Turkish Archaeology: In-depth Interviews Unveiling Gender-Based Challenges Faced by Female Archaeologists in Fieldwork and Academia, examined gender-based inequalities experienced by women working in archaeological fieldwork and academic environments in Turkey.

Her archaeological experience includes fieldwork with the Polatlı Landscape Archaeology and Survey Project (PLAS), where she participated in archaeological survey and documentation in central Anatolia. Her current research builds on her archaeological training while incorporating textual and linguistic evidence to investigate Bronze Age Anatolia through an interdisciplinary framework.
