PhD Student Art History

Gillian Yee (they/them) is an art historian of the Global Contemporary specializing in North America and the Asian diaspora(s). They previously received their M.A. with an additional certificate in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Georgia State University in 2021. Their work functions on strictly queer, trans, nonbinary, and de/anticolonial approaches to the field and has been presented consistently in conferences across the North/Southeast as well as in several publications, including Boston University’s graduate journal SEQUITUR.

Their ongoing dissertation research delves into the crossroads between art history and the burgeoning field of queer death studies, studying how contemporary artist practices might deconstruct typical notions of human-centric mortality, death, and dying.
