Artist Statement

I am a multi-disciplinary assemblage artist working with found materials sourced from second-hand stores and personal collections. I create objects utilizingtextiles that I manipulate through handwork and piecework, combining collage, chance operations, and elements of kitsch — accessible media and everyday objects. At times, I recreate mass-produced items through these methods, exploring the intersections of the mass-produced, the handmade, the domestic, and the fine art space.

My practice of decontextualizing and subverting the histories of materials, along with disrupting traditional craft methods, echoes how queer and other minority communities have long created new identities, families, and realities from what is available to us.

Through this work, I aim to subvert, upend, and question a patriarchal, heteronormative worldview and memorialize my stories and experiences, refusing to let them be replaced or overwritten by others’ narratives.
