Laurin Aman (she/they) is a researcher, designer, and fabricator.
Their research “(un)making material ecologies” explores material life cycles with a particular interest in handcraft, manufacturing, and digital fabrication in relation to planetary ecological systems. Through material prototyping, Laurin brings together familiar materials with unfamiliar processes and forgotten materials with familiar processes.
Laurin was a M.S. Fellow and Research Assistant at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning and practiced at *Alibi Studio in Detroit. Laurin worked in the architectural materials industry in New York City at the Designtex Custom Studio and Wolf Gordon Customs Lab, leading bespoke projects from ideation to final production. In these roles they collaborated with independent artists, visited factories to direct production, advanced sustainability initiatives, and organized community art-based events. These experiences influence their teaching and working methods, and Laurin presently operates in a post-disciplinary approach, interacting with collaborators from wide-ranging disciplines both within and beyond academia.
