Dennis McGlade, FASLA: Planting Over Structure
Dennis McGlade has been a part of OLIN nearly since its inception, joining the studio in 1978 and becoming a partner in 1996. A highly regarded professional in the field of design and horticulture, his noted works include the design of the J. Paul Getty Center and Fran and Ray Stark Sculpture Garden in Los Angeles, California; Bishopsgate and Canary Wharf in London, UK and Midway Plaisance in Chicago, Illinois. Dennis earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois and went on to receive his Master of Landscape Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied under renowned landscape architect Ian McHarg. He has served in various teaching positions at the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University. Dennis will talk about how the Mid Atlantic region continues to grow and get even more urbanized, creative opportunities must be found to maintain and expand natural habitats, mitigate storm water run off, and provide social open spaces for the growing population. The design of exterior spaces over structure is one opportunity to find solutions for these and the numerous other environmental issues raise by continued densification of our cities and inner ring suburbs.
