The Design and Illustration Department at Tyler School of Art and Architecture proudly presents the D&I Speaker Series. Featuring leading designers and illustrators, these talks offer students the chance to engage with creative leaders who share their insights, experiences, and work. Each event, whether tied to a course or open to all, bridges classroom learning with real-world creative practice, creating unique opportunities for connection and inspiration.

Elaine Lopez is an independent designer and educator. Her practice and research explore the intersection of culture, identity, equity, and Risograph printing within the field of design. Her studio, LoPress Press, collaborates with cultural and academic institutions, including the Sachs Program for Arts Innovation at the University of Pennsylvania and the Center For Complexity at the Rhode Island School of Design, to give shape to research around culture and identity. She has lectured at IDEO, Samsung, Google, and academic institutions, including the University of Pennsylvania, Texas State University, and Pratt Institute. She has presented at the Where Are the Black Designers? and the In/Visible conferences. In 2019, she was awarded the AICAD Post-Graduate Teaching Fellowship at the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has served on the board of various design organizations, including AIGA Chicago and the Type Director's Club. She holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a BFA from the University of Florida, both in Graphic Design. She is currently an Assistant Professor and the Associate Director of the BFA in Communication Design program at Parsons School of Design in New York City.
