"I Do This Weird Thing... " a collaboration between the Visual Studies Curatorial Lab and Tyler School of Art
Beginning as a collaborative effort to explore the hands-on practice of curatorial work and exhibition design, the Curatorial Lab became fascinated with the idea of ritual and the unusual habits that we all secretly have, rarely admit to, or even acknowledge. This show is our attempt to unpack the secret lives of the everyday person through the eyes of the artistic community of Tyler School of Art. Featuring personal practices ranging from excessive knitting and anonymous Google searches to collecting teeth, “I Do This Weird Thing” presents the strange and familiar side by side, and begs the question of what “weird” truly means.
“I Do This Weird Thing...” comprises the work of six artists, as well as a collaborative, interactive work created as a curatorial response to the works in the show. This exhibition features new works by Rhiannon Bell, Josephine Consoli, Julia Cornelius, Emily Culver, Catherine Donohue, and Rebecca McTeague.
A special opening reception with compulsively curated snacks will take place on Thursday, November 20th from 6-8pm. Admission is free and all are welcome. The galleries are open 8am-9pm daily. Tyler will be closed to the public (but open to Tyler students) over the Thanksgiving holiday.
