TechOWL is Pennsylvania’s Assistive Technology Act program and is part of the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University. TechOWL helps people with disabilities explore the tools and technology they need to be independent.

Each holiday season, TechOWL partners with the community to adapt toys for children with disabilities. For some children, actions like pinching the Tickle Me Elmo's foot are not possible. Through switch adapting, we can create high quality alternatives to interact with toys that in their original form are not accessible to children with limited mobility. In these two workshops presented at Tyler, participants will learn how to create interactive switches and to connect the switches to toys by making battery interrupters. All the switches and toys that are adapted are given to children with disabilities in Pennsylvania.

These workshops will be led by Tom DiAgostino, TechOWL’s Senior Assistive Technology Program Coordinator. This program is co-hosted by TechOWL and Tyler’s Access in Art and Design series, which presents programming on accessibility and inclusivity in creative fields.

Light refreshments will be served at each workshop.
