Temple University stands out at the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Renaissance Society of America

Renaissance rocks! Temple University stood out at the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Renaissance Society of America recently held in New Orleans. Ximena Valle helps launch "The Women Led City"

Remembering John Christopher Knowles (1938-2018)

Earlier this month, the Tyler School of Art and Architecture and Temple University families lost a cherished friend and colleague, John Christopher Knowles. His wife, Brigitte Knowles, senior associate dean and professor emerita at Tyler, wrote this obituary.   John Christopher Knowles, the founding chairperson of Architecture at Temple University, died March 18, 2018, of heart failure due to flu complications. John was born in England on December 20, 1938. He came to Philadelphia from Nottingham to study at the University of Pennsylvania with the architect, Louis I. Kahn, who became both a friend and mentor. Read More

Placemaking class facilitates community design workshop

Students in the Placemaking course engaged in a service-learning opportunity this semester.  They obtained hands-on community engagement placemaking experience by facilitating a Community Design Workshop for an EPA funded Brownfield Wide Area Planning grant.  Dr. Mandarano is co-teaching the Placemaking course this semester with Terence Milstead, Adjunct. This course provided the perfect opportunity to embed an experiential learning experience directly tied to the EPA project.  After receiving training on how to facilitate community-led placemaking discussions, students worked in teams to facilitate and document dialogues with local residents and private property owners aim at developing win-win redevelopment concepts for five vacant parcels in Philadelphia's North of Lehigh neighborhood. Tyler Graduate Leads Painting Fundraiser

Art exists as both a product of passion and fuel for it. There are many worthwhile causes that require assistance to garner both interest and funds to support them, and even more artists who work hard to bring these goals to fruition. Recently, Joy Waldinger, a Tyler Alum and a professional artist, hosted a fundraising event to support students in need. Joy Waldinger graduated from Temple University with a BS in Art Education, and is working on her master's degree in restorative practices. Read More
