Artful Coalitions: Challenging Adverse Adolescent Girls' Experiences through Art

Tyler's Art Education and Community Arts Practices Department is headed to the 2016 National Art Education Association conference in Chicago! A number of professors and students will be presenting, and today we're highlighting one of the many lectures and workshops Dr. Lisa Kay will be leading.

Dr. Lisa Kay (Assistant Professor in Art Education) will present a best practice lecture titled: "Artful Coalitions: Challenging Adverse Adolescent Girls' Experiences through Art" on Friday March 18, 2016 at the National Art Education Association Conference in Chicago, IL.

The presentation will outline ways to lead students in the development of a stronger sense of self, voice, and agency through art. This session will share stories, strategies, frustrations, and successes of an artful coalition in a private academic school with a residential program among three individuals – an art teacher, art therapist, and an art therapist/art educator/ researcher – and adolescent girls who were working to develop resilience and a greater sense of self through art making and creative writing.
