Join artist Rami George for an online discussion of their work in the context of Tyler's Race, Identity and Experience in American Art course.  

George is an interdisciplinary artist currently based on Lenape land in what is now called Philadelphia. George’s practice turns an autobiographical lens on their Lebanese heritage, queer experience, and family history in a New Age spiritual community. Their mixed-media installations and video works draw from archives and family ephemera and use common materials such as plywood, plastic sheeting, and house paint. 

Their work has been presented in exhibitions and screenings at MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge; Anthology Film Archives, New York; Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow; Grand Union, Birmingham; the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; LUX, London; the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago; and elsewhere. George received their BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and is a 2021 Pew Fellow. They continue to be influenced and motivated by political struggles and fractured narratives. 

This program is part of the Race and Identity Artist Series, organized by the Gen Ed Race & Diversity faculty members Kara M'shinda and Ricky Yanas.
