The Art of Student Teaching Exhibition

Each year, the Art Education Department presents exhibitions of work done by student teachers and their pupils for display at the Stella Elkins Gallery. This year, four student teachers displayed the products of their time at a variety of schools as community members gathered in fellowship to appreciate the art made by friends and loved ones.Wendy Osterweil, the supervising professor of this group of students, was one of the Tyler officials present for this installation. “What’s unique about this show is that it’s a rather small group. Each student put a lot of time into this exhibition, and it shows.” The student teachers exhibiting were Brooke Mulroy, Madeline Willis, Maria Chambers, and Anna Capriotti. Read More

Danielle Abdon at the John Carter Brown Library

Danielle (PhD candidate, Art History) will be researching the Latin American case studies for her dissertation, which focuses on two hospitals in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and Salvador, Brazil.  She will be consulting 16th and 17th century maps, views, and accounts by Jesuits and travelers of these early colonial port cities, as well as publications that contextualize her case studies and record or reproduce archival documents. Steven Charles, Tyler Painting MFA '96, is showing recent works in a solo show at Chris Worley Fine Arts in Dallas, TX, May 19-June 23, 2018. Charles's work has been exhibited nationally in galleries and museums, as well as internationally in Canada and Spain. He has been the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and an Artist’s Fellowship from The New York Foundation for the Arts. His work has been reviewed in publications including Art in America, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Vice among others. Her largest-ever cut-paper collage installation "investigates the intersections of the visual, the experiential, and the literary, treating language and nature as kindred phenomena." Art Therapy Comes to Tyler

There’s a new major coming to Tyler that many have been excited for over the past few years! In Fall 2017, Art Therapy came to campus as a new Bachelor of Arts degree. With a new major comes a lot of questions, so I took the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Lisa Kay, one of the advocates for Art Therapy as a major at Temple. One-Year Horticultural Therapy Certificate

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION Thorough hands-training, this certificate introduces students to a variety of horticulture therapy skills. The program meets horticultural therapy requirements by the American Horticultural Therapy Association (AHTA) for becoming a Registered Horticultural Therapist.
