Tyler Welcomes Five New AED Faculty Members

This fall, Tyler’s Architecture and Environmental Design department welcomes three new full-time faculty members: Assistant Professor of Architecture Jeffrey Nesbit, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture Nathan Heavers, and Assistant Professor of Instruction in Planning and Community Development Ryan Devlin. Each brings a unique set of skills and knowledge, ranging from informal urban spaces to infrastructure to forest management. Professor Scott Laserow Speaks with Graphis Journal About Socially-Conscious Poster Design

Scott Laserow (BFA '87), Professor of Graphic and Interactive Design, was recently profiled in the prestigious Graphis Journal #372 regarding his professional work with socially conscious poster design and how his campaigns inform causes that encourage ecological and political change. Laserow has been recognized by Graphis in the past, earning a Platinum Award in its 2015 poster covers series. Featuring an introduction by Professor Emeritus Joe Scorsone, the article discusses his work philosophy, what he learned from his own education at Tyler, and why he gravitates toward poster design above all else.   Read More

The Hatchery Promotes a Design-Focused Business Model

Associate Professor of Instruction Bryan Satalino (MFA ‘13) approaches Graphic and Interactive Design from an innovative, entrepreneurial lens. He joined Tyler’s faculty in 2013 specifically to foster students’ understanding of the relationship between graphic design and business, and successfully founded The Hatchery, Tyler’s project incubator. He teaches students how to model their art as a business and provides them with tools to interact with real-world clients in bold and inventive ways.  Read More

NXTHVN Fellow Warith Taha (MFA '20) Explores Black Legacy in Exhibition at Sean Kelly Gallery

Immediately after earning an MFA in Painting from Tyler in 2020, graduate Warith Taha scored a Tournesol Award from the Headlands Center for the Arts and a yearlong residency at NXTHVN, a non-profit incubator for emerging artists and curators of color in New Haven, Connecticut. Now his work is on view in Undercurrents, a group exhibition with NXTHVN’s Fellowship Program cohort at Sean Kelly Gallery in New York, from June 10 – August 5, 2022. Read More

Doreen Garner (BFA '09) Displays Courageous, Arresting Work at The New Museum

Samara Weaver (BArch '11, MArch '13) Exhibits Naturalistic Artwork at Delaware's Mezzanine Gallery

Samara Weaver (BArch ‘11, MArch ‘13) has always been drawn to buildings, spaces, and the emotions they can evoke. She ties her early love of architecture to a childhood memory of Philadelphia’s grand, neoclassical 30th Street Station.   When deciding on her education, Weaver chose to obtain both an undergraduate and graduate degree in architecture rather than the fine arts due to her search for a more “structured job market,” she recently told Art Watch Podcast.   Read More

Michael J. Ernst (PhD student) awarded a Graduate Research Fellowship to work abroad

Michael J. Ernst (Ph.D. student) was awarded a Graduate Research Fellowship from the American Research Institute of the South Caucasus (ARISC), which is a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC).  Michael plans to use this fellowship to help pay for expenses related to research in Azerbaijan focused on gas station prayer-houses built for Azerbaijan’s Shi’a Muslim population.
