Lisa Kay Reappointed as Chair of AECAP

Lisa Kay, Associate Professor and Program Head of Art Therapy has been reappointed as Department Chair of Art Education & Community Arts Practices (AECAP) for a second three-year term through the academic year 2022–23. As chair, Kay has helped reshape the MEd program by emphasizing the identities of the artist-, educator- and arts-based researcher; developed the Art Therapy Program—one of the few undergraduate programs in the United States situated in an art and architecture school within an urban public university—and continued to expand Community Arts Practices to offer socially-engaged art that emphasizes both the creative object and its social implications. Art Therapy Comes to Tyler

There’s a new major coming to Tyler that many have been excited for over the past few years! In Fall 2017, Art Therapy came to campus as a new Bachelor of Arts degree. With a new major comes a lot of questions, so I took the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Lisa Kay, one of the advocates for Art Therapy as a major at Temple. AECAP Professor Dr.Lisa Kay's Work To Be Published In Forthcoming Art therapy Book

Congratulations to Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Art Education and Community Arts Practices Professor Lisa Kay whose work is published in the forthcoming book, Art for Children Experiencing Psychological Trauma: A Guide for Educators and School-Based Professionals. This timely and groundbreaking resource is focuses on the relationship between art education and psychological trauma in youth populations. Dr. Kay, a board certified art therapist and art educator, contributed two solo chapters: Children Exposed to Trauma: Children in Crisis and Yellow Bricks: An Approach to Art Teaching. She also co-authored two chapters on understanding the potential for art Making for students experiencing psychological trauma and best practices in pre-service art teacher education and professional development.   Read More
