The Controlled Body
Vinyl, Portland Cement, Structolite, Sand, 74’’ x 18’’ x 11’’

The emotional and physical space our bodies represent is uniting, nuanced, yet deeply personal.  Daily, we experience constant regulation and feelings of control or lack of control placed upon us through ourselves, societal norms and stereotypes and cultural constructs. All of these have the capacity to dictate both our internal and external expressions of the self, resulting in both positive and negative consequences. My current body of work looks to explore the ideas of the controlled body and self-regulation, and how we choose to confront, accept and negotiate interactions with these notions.
