NO ROOTS NO QUESTIONS
Known and practiced since antiquity, this motion cure for melancholy consists simply of making the sufferer a passenger. The constantly changing scenery before their eyes dispels repetitive obsessions, while the rhythm of the journey realigns the mind to the ebb and flow of the real world in motion. Change is the constant; permanence becomes illusory.
This current body of work engages impermanence, transience, and flux through the metaphor of motion. I seek to create an immersive environment that puts the viewer in the position of the passenger, surrounded by rhythmic, directional movement of passing scenery and sound that shifts emphasis depending on their position in the installation. Instead of an origin or destination, I depict the places in between. Instead of time, I feel the flux that is the sum of our experience- the constant movement, the alternating velocity, from nowhere to nowhere.
