Artist Statement
Leaving/arriving
Calling someone on a land
line in the apartment
they left,
Inevitably and impossibly,
for something long-desired
But lacking shape
as of yet.
Past thought as present
Reality. Before Christ, until
the Western appropriation of
cyclical time.
The tornado starting on Putnam
Avenue and deteriorating,
Slowly,
Stopping
in Philadelphia.
A tidal wave from Rome
With memories of
Its ancient conquerors
Enslaving women.
Copies of another culture,
cooked with olive oil
And a lack of salt.
