Architecture Faculty’s Firm Recognized at 2023 AIA Pennsylvania Architectural Excellence Awards

Associate Professor of Practice in Architecture Eric Oskey’s firm Moto Designshop was honored at the 2023 AIA Pennsylvania Architectural Excellence Awards in November. Moto Designshop, at which Oskey is a Technical Partner, was the 2023 recipient of the AIA Pennsylvania Architecture Firm Award.

Every year the AIA Pennsylvania Architecture Firm Award recognizes one firm that has produced notable architecture for at least a decade. Excellence in design, breadth and depth of portfolio, a healthy firm culture, influence on the practice of architecture, and exemplary outcomes for clients and/or society are recognized attributes of Firm Award recipients.

Moto Designshop, founded in 2004, is a small, progressive firm based in Old City Philadelphia and dedicated to progressive, intentional design, utilizing a meaningful and artistic approach to shaping the built environment.

As Technical Partner at Moto Designshop, Oskey brings into being the firm’s creative vision through the sophisticated application of assemblies, material science, building systems, and construction knowledge. Since joining the firm in 2012, he has lead their large-scale and institutional projects, while navigating their intricate dynamics.

“One of the things, from a design standpoint, that [Moto Designshop is] very good at, is pushing the perceived limits of a material and the tectonics of a material, and that we like to push it beyond what it might be perceived that it can do,” Oskey said. “But we do that in a way that we compensate for that, and we compensate for it by our understandings of structure and materials.”
