AH Lecture with Dr. Bryan C. Keene: “Reflections on Curating Manuscript Exhibitions”

Dr. Bryan Keene, assistant professor of art history at Riverside City College and a former associate curator of manuscripts at the J. Paul Getty Museum, will present a virtual talk via Zoom on curating exhibitions of manuscripts and rare books, and strategies for developing and maintaining curatorial practices.

His work promotes diversity and equity for the study and display of pre-modern visual arts, as well as for the advocacy of the LGBTQIA2+ communities. At the Getty Museum, he has curated or co-curated award-winning exhibitions on the topics of global manuscript cultures and on out-groups of the Middle Ages, in addition to over 10 additional projects on topics ranging from gardens and landscape painting to astronomy and astrology. He holds a PhD from The Courtauld Institute of Art IN London, with a dissertation on Italian choir book illumination.
