Business Entities for Artists

If you’re earning even part of your living as an artist, designer, or maker, you should consider whether forming a separate business entity is the right decision for you. This workshop will review the questions you need to ask yourself at the beginning of this decision-making process. Then, we’ll move on to discussing the most common business structures for artists, from remaining a sole proprietor to limited liability companies, the standard corporation types, and the new benefit corporation option. To help you determine which structure is best for your particular situation, we’ll review several important considerations, including the complexity and costs of formation, ongoing responsibilities, and tax treatment.
