A master of comic minimalism, Carl Ostendarp’s painting practice has significantly impacted the continued development of pictorial abstraction through his fusion of pop art, minimalism, color field painting and cartoons. Art critic Jerry Saltz once noted, “If Dr. Seuss’s Cat in the Hat, Jules Olitski and Roy Lichtenstein made art together, it might look like Ostendarp’s.”
