Drawing extends beyond mere replication of what we see; it invites us to explore mark-making, express fundamental design principles, and uncover unseen aspects of our environment.

The Tyler Harmonograph, created in 2019 explores the dual nature of drawing: as both observable practice and a means to reveal the invisible. Associate Professor gerard brown's Foundations classes had students design and build drawing machines, resulting in the creation of this machine.

This machines challenge artists to relinquish control over image creation, operating independently once initiated. It encourages rethinking drawing beyond imagery, skill, or intention, highlighting the captivating processes that lead to the final artwork.
