PhD in Art History

Srđan Tunić

Srđan Tunić specializes in contemporary art, with a focus on public art (graffiti, street art and murals) and activism, through the lens of transcultural and queer theories, implementing horizontal art history approach. He graduated from UC Davis (MA in Art History, 2023), The University of Arts in Belgrade (MA in Cultural Management and Policy, 2017) and The University of Belgrade (BA in Art History, 2008).

His texts have been published in the Kultura Journal, AFRIKA – Studies in art and culture, Transcultural Studies Journal, IJOCA - International Journal of Comic Art, SAUC - Street Art & Urban Creativity Scientific Journal, as well as web portals SEEcult, Uneven Earth, Balkanist, Makanje and Seismopolite magazine. Some of his latest publications are "Queering the Urban Space: The Adventures of Inspector Yoda the Wrinkled in Belgrade, Serbia" (SAUC, Vol. 10, No. 1, 2024) and "The New Gods: Merging the Ancient and the Contemporary of Egypt," co-authored with Omar Houssien (The Routledge Handbook of CoFuturisms, 2023).

Srđan is one of the cofounders of initiatives Street Art Walks Belgrade, Kustosiranje / About and Around Curating, and Trans-Cultural Dialogues (as part of Cultural Innovators Network). Since 2012, he has been working as a freelance curator, organizing art exhibitions and educational projects. Since 2018 he has been one of the contributing editors for Not Afraid of the Ruins. At the moment, he is preparing an edited issue on Serbian street art and graffiti scene together with Ljiljana Radošević for the upcoming Kultura Journal.
