Artist Statement
My practice lays in-between space, the queerest space. Being a 1.5 generation Korean-American immigrant and a non-binary persyn, I have faced social alienation in both countries because of gender, sexuality, and social class. I was assigned female at birth and raised to be a Korean womxn. The typical idea of the“ female experience” nauseatingly includes topics on body dysmorphia, oppression, depression, sexual violence and lack of agency. I found this experience to directly correlate with devaluing my own existence. Upon understanding the root of my lack of self-love, I began to question, analyze and observe the feeling of worthlessness and began to take steps in repossessing my humanity.
