Artist Statement
In a time of endless information and seemingly infinite choice, my work explores how tedium functions as an escape from chaos and insignificance. I examine this tension between the mundane and the sublime in atmospheric illustrations, imbuing familiar scenes and everyday items with an otherworldly sensibility. By methodically arranging overlooked and ephemeral objects, I reinforce both their ordinariness and their peculiarity.
From discrete rooms inside separate buildings, we reach for equivalent doorknobs, hold matching water glasses below individual faucets, and brush our teeth in parallel time; we have distinct dreams on nearly identical pillows. My work acknowledges these redundancies in the common experience while also providing singular, static spaces for prolonged reflection. My goal is for viewers to return to daily life with a renewed sense of the uncanny and profound.
