Artist Statement

The fact that I only have the option to change or not change terrifies me. Is there anyway to know that it’ll be for the better?
As an artist based in process I work interdisciplinarily, focusing on bookbinding, woodworking, printmaking, performance, photography, ceramics, mold making, and jewelry. My work starts at a place of materiality. I start with material, oftentimes ones that have been overlooked or discarded. Then I document the material as a relief print, a photograph, or as a mold replica. Finally I transform the material and present the process all together, taking shape as a picture frame framing a print of itself, or a book telling the story of its creation.
Through this process the work creates a space for acknowledging what was lost and gained through transformation on a material level as well as social and personal. While oftentimes existing as solely a material body, the work also acts as a symbol for change and manipulation as a whole. Multiplicity works as a way of expanding to a larger scope of community and the effects that change has on it.
