Landscape Architecture Design/Build Studio - Philadelphia Flower Show Exhibit

Update: 2/13/2024 - Temple University explores Philadelphia’s maritime legacy at the 2024 Philadelphia Flower Show

A cornerstone project that shapes the junior year at Temple Ambler in Temple University, Tyler School of Art and Architecture’s Landscape Architecture program is during  the junior year with the Landscape Architecture Design studio: Design/Build. This studio is known for its participation in PHS: Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s The Philadelphia Flower Show

Students design and create in the Innovation Studio in the Temple Ambler Research and Collaboration Building under the guidance of two seasoned Landscape Architects. Horticulture students and staff prepare all the plants included in the exhibit. This class project offers a unique hands-on experience that allows students to create, build, and showcase their talents for visitors to the Philadelphia Flower Show. The Ambler campus program has been participating in the Flower Show for over 90 years – beginning in 1932 as the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women and then under Temple University since 1956.

Flower Show 2024 Preview

The Tyler School of Art and Architecture’s Landscape Architecture Junior Design-Build Studio is “preparing to launch” for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Philadelphia Flower Show, which will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center from March 2 to 10, 2024.
The students last week provided a preview of their design in the Innovation Studio in the Temple Ambler Research and Collaboration Building, where during the spring semester they will build the exhibit then take it apart again to build it once more at the Convention Center. The PHS theme for the 2024 Philadelphia Flower Show is “United by Flowers.” View the gallery of images here.
The student team for the 2024 exhibit includes Landscape Architecture juniors Owen Lambert, Ruby Kabuiku, Cecelia Quay, Laetitia Zagabe, Simone Keg, Margaret Murphy and Zachary Neyen.
“We will be addressing the Flower Show theme — and the Educational category theme of ‘Gardening for Greater Philadelphia’ — by creating an exhibit that focuses on the history, culture, materials, elements, gardens and climate, both past and present, of Philadelphia’s River Wards, specifically Pennsport,” said Adjunct Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture Michael LoFurno, who is navigating the students through the project with Adjunct Instructor and Temple Landscape Architecture program alumnus Anthony Zachornacki. “We intend to represent the Delaware River’s history as an active shipping port for coal, sugar, and other goods, which we may contrast with the recent re-wilding of the pier areas.
