Artist Statement

I am a human with the innate desire for intimacy, living in a culture saturated with a pressing weight of immediacy, these two principals describe communication in a digital age. My work investigates the permanence of words and the impact technology has on the value of a society. Our social media identities are personal narratives crafted for the public. Instead of being known, we put ourselves on display as a novelty. Palaver investigates human interaction and communication, specifically within unsolicited conversations that invade private spaces with public content. The mundane stories of individuals, the flippant attitude of messaging, the permanence of the content, and the truths displayed in tiny word bubbles glowing from our pockets are small passages in the social media narrative that envelops me.
