Lecture: Alexandra Strada
Alex Strada (she/hers) is an artist and educator based in New York City. Her practice spans film/video, photography, performance, installation, sound, text, and public works. Collaboration and transdisciplinary engagement are central to her projects. She has shown her work internationally while prioritizing public and accessible spaces including the Socrates Sculpture Park, NY; Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, NY; Museum of Moving Image, NY; Anthology Film Archives, NY; UnionDocs, NY; Goethe-Institut, NY; MuseumsQuartier, Vienna; Kaunas Biennial, Lithuania; and the screens of Times Square with Times Square Arts’ Midnight Moment. Her projects have been written about in The New Yorker, Artsy, BOMB, Vice, and in legal journals.
She is the recipient of the NYFA Women's Fund for Media Artists, NYSCA Grant for Film, and the Rema Hort Mann Community Engagement Grant. Strada has a B.A. from Bates College, an M.F.A. in Visual Arts from Columbia University and she was a studio participant in the Whitney Independent Study Program. She has taught at the Cooper Union, Fordham University, Columbia University, and in public schools throughout NYC with Studio in a School. Currently, she is a 2021–22 Year of Uncertainty Artist-in-Residence at the Queens Museum and an Assistant Professor in Residence at the Rhode Island School of Design.
