Critical Dialogue: Maren Hassinger on Steel Bodies
Multidisciplinary artist Maren Hassinger will discuss her life’s work in the public space and her first outdoor sculpture exhibition in Philadelphia, Steel Bodies at the Ellen Phillips Samuel Memorial. For more than five decades, Hassinger has explored connections between politics, communities, and the environment through dance, performance, video, and an approach to materials that transforms the industrial into the poetic. Hassinger, who lives and works in New York, NY, received her BA from Bennington College and her MFA in Fiber Structure from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Hassinger’s Steel Bodies was originally presented and commissioned by Socrates Sculpture Park, New York with support from the Lenore G. Tawney Foundation.
This event is free and open to the public. It is presented in conjunction with the Association for Public Art (aPA) in Philadelphia and Temple Contemporary, the Tyler School of Art and Architecture's center for exhibitions and public programming. Light refreshments will be provided.
