Tyler Sand Pendulum
Drawing extends beyond mere replication of what we see; it invites us to explore mark-making, express fundamental design principles, and uncover unseen aspects of our environment.
Building on the success of the Large Harmonograph built in 2019, gerard brown's Advanced Painting students with the help of Glass faculty member Leo Tekofsky developed two large pendula in 2023. These pendula create sand drawings, exploring geometry and motion.
These machines challenge artists to relinquish control over image creation, operating independently once initiated. They encourage rethinking drawing beyond imagery, skill, or intention, highlighting the captivating processes that lead to the final artwork.
