Glass Sustainability Micro-Symposium
Tyler's renowned Glass Program will host a two-day Glass Sustainability Micro-Symposium that will bring together researchers and artists to examine the lifecycle of glass materials, from their geological origins to studio practices, and explore innovative, sustainable approaches to working with the medium.
Highlights include
- Lecture by Marymount Manhattan College Associate Professor Erin E. O’Connor, a world-recognized expert in craft studies, on the material life of glass batch
- Panel discussion led by adjunct faculty and Tyler alum Kristen Neville Taylor (MFA’16), 2023 Pew Fellow
- Presentations by Glass Program Head Jessica Julius, Architecture Assistant Professor Laurin Aman, and current Art History PhD student Ana Matisse Donefer-Hickie.
- Lecture on Pedagogical Sustainability Strategies from Temple GRASP grant recipient John Dillard (MFA’24)
- Conversations with Frederik Rombach, founder of RERO Glass in Belgium, whose studio focuses on environmental awareness and community outreach.
Through lectures, workshops, and discussions, this gathering invites participants to connect, share ideas, and reflect on the role of materials and practices in shaping a sustainable future.
