Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and Architecture invites applications for a full-time professor in Architecture with a specialization in the area of building technology, open rank.

The candidate will be joining Tyler’s distinguished arts and design faculty in the Architecture and Environmental Design Department. Located on a vibrant urban campus in Philadelphia, PA, Temple University has more than 38,000 students in17 schools and colleges. Tyler offers undergraduate programs in Architecture, Facilities Management, and Historic Preservation. Graduate offerings include a professional NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture degree, a post-professional Master of Science degree, with optional concentrations in Health and Design, Advanced Technologies and Design, and Urban Ecologies and Design, and a Master of Science in Facilities Planning with an optional concentration in Health Facilities. Other Tyler degree offerings include Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Community Development, and City and Regional Planning as well as programs in the arts. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach design studios at the graduate and undergraduate level, required courses in building technology (materials and methods of construction, building systems, and/or sustainability), and architecture electives and will aid in the development of new areas of building technology research at the graduate level. The candidate will also serve on department and school committees and participate in other activities such as curriculum development.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of excellence in an architectural research or a research-based architectural practice. Areas of expertise may include sustainable materials and methods of construction, biodiversity, resilience against the environmental consequences of climate change, high performance building technologies that reduce carbon emissions, or additional topics related to innovation in building technologies in architecture. Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years teaching experience, and must hold a terminal degree in architecture (Master of Architecture or international equivalent) or research-based Master of Science or PhD in Architecture. Architectural licensure, professional or teaching experience with performance modeling, embodied energy analysis and simulation software is desirable. A minimum of two years teaching experience is preferred.
