Foundations

Students begin their Tyler careers with a yearlong immersion in the school’s comprehensive Foundation program. Foundation is an intensive and highly structured series of courses that form the fundamental basis for studio practice, critical thinking, and the knowledge and implementation of principles of visual art expression. Foundation courses are housed in an almost 12,000 sq facility with nine drawing, 2D and 3D classrooms on the second floor of the Tyler building.  Foundation students also use the all school woodshop and casting studios in the lower level north area, as well as the digital fabrication lab in lower level south, and the  media output center and computer labs on the second floor.
