Bartrams Boxed
Karen Watkins
Infusing contemporary form with natural materials, the legacies of John Bartram and William Bartram are celebrated in this experimental book. Two appendices catalogue the collections and travels as well as the natures of father and son, collector and curator. Many North American trees and flowers were introduced in Europe by John Bartram. Assisted by merchant Peter Collinson, Bartram's new plants were shared with fellow gardeners throughout England. 'Bartram’s Boxes', as they then became known, were regularly sent to Peter Collinson and contained 100 or more varieties of seeds. William Bartram, was known for his botanic and ornithological drawings. The language in his writings about his extensive travels inspired the writers and poets of his time. Instructor: Joe Scorsone.

Instructor: Dermot MacCormack.
