      *2019* July 29 - August 2
      9:30am - 3:30pm

Join Philadelphia fiber artist and longtime educator, Dianne Koppisch Hricko, for this five-day workshop held in Tyler's state-of-the-art Fibers studios. Designed with adult students and educators in mind, this workshop will explore using resists as a means of creating patterns and textures using Indigo, fiber reactive dyes, and Thiox. Working with the ancient Japanese resist processes of shibori, and contemporary deconstructed silk screen methods, along with wheat paste and glue resists, you will investigate dyeing as a means of understanding design and composition. Everyone will leave class with several hand dyed samples and the knowledge to continue your exploration on your own. All materials are readily available, and projects will translate well to K-12 classroom settings. Enhance your artistic practice though hands-on instruction in an environment that encourages experimentation! All experience levels welcome.  *Watch a past student describe their experience in Dianne Hricko's textile class HERE TUITION $495 (Includes a $50 non-refundable drop fee and a $50 materials fee).   Available for Act 48 Credit Hours at no additional cost!

  • Structures of Holes and Spaces; Woven Laces

      July 27 - 31
      Monday – Friday from 9am – 5pm with a break for lunch.

Lace structures create translucency and serve as a filter of light and negative space. Lace covers and guards its owner while simultaneously allowing for a gaze through the cloth eroticizing, objectifying, and also empowering the person or thing on the other side. Loom controlled laces utilize systems of holes and spaces. In woven cloth, warp threads are anchored at both ends then crossed in straight lines by weft threads. In this class we will investigate patterns that manipulate that right angle, allowing threads to bend and curve once removed from the tension of the loom. Students will be introduced to processes including open weave, leno lace, and huck lace. Each student will have opportunity to make a sample of each process as well as complete one project of their choosing. Tuition is $550 + $50 non-refundable registration fee.  $150 materials fee covers all materials needed for the workshop. Tyler alums are eligible for a 10% discount. Early registration (by May 15) is eligible for a 10% discount. Please note: these discounts cannot be combined; only one 10% discount permitted. This course focuses on the visual language of architectural representation and design; and processes related to constructing and understanding the built environment. Students will learn the architectural techniques of drawing, drafting and model making. Through design problems, lectures and site visits, students will come to understand that architecture is a creative search based on both imagination and precedents. • Summer Portfolio Bootcamp

      Three sessions to choose from
      10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Are you planning to apply to an art school? This workshop is for you! Designed as intensive portfolio preparation class for 11th and 12th graders, students leave Portfolio Boot Camp with finished pieces that will distinguish them as exceptional artists. Recognizing that observational drawing is often the most important feature an admissions counselor considers when reviewing a portfolio, every Boot Camp schedules time for drawing from still-life, figure models and other live sources. With individual guidance from the instructor and visits from Tyler's Admissions Counselors, students gain an understanding of image presentation, learn about the college admissions process and develop work to flesh out their portfolios that highlight their strengths. Previous observational drawing experience required. Please note there is a $50 model fee per session.
