Painting MFA
The paintings I create illustrate the remains of the American Civil War, in particular, the reenactments that surround it. I participate in the populist subculture of reenacting the American Civil War as the artist-correspondent Winslow Homer. I began reenacting at the age of twelve as a cavalry bugle boy and eventually found my way into portraying artist-correspondents. I immerse myself in the materiality of my own obsession by constructing period clothes, camping on the battlefield, and documenting the reenactment similar to Homer’s documentation of the authentic war.
