Artist Statement

The architecture in Rome stimulates thoughts about how to compose the surface of the canvas. The geometric elements which come from interior architectural spaces are represented as unstable and movable shapes in my paintings. The reason for representing them in an active way relates to my body's reaction to those spaces and structures. My body is the site for connecting with the environment around me. I represent the phenomena occurring in a space (human activities, atmosphere, feelings in my heart) by changing the stable geometric forms to abstract, active, and movable ones. When I perceive a psychological reaction that is deeply connected to specific parts of my body, I feature those motifs as elements in my works; for example vessels, cells, heart, and nervous system. Most of the colors appearing on the canvas are not the original or natural color of the subject matter I depict. I prefer to employ bright, strong colors to carry my emotions and sensorial impressions. Yellow is the only stable color appearing consistently in each of my works. I identify with this color, and indeed its temperature and saturation will change based on my emotions.
