Online Fall and Spring Programs: What to Expect

ONLINE FORMAT

Tyler will be offering all of our Pre-College and Adult Continuing Education programs online for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. This includes our Weekend Workshops, Weekend Portfolio Boot Camps, and Art Start Program. Following the success of our Online Summer 2020 Pre-College Programs, and given the continued risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the decision to remain 100% online. Working with our incredible faculty, we have been able to replicate much of our curriculum to provide you with an enriching educational experience that will allow you to explore new media and interests, build technical skills, learn about creative career paths and make artwork under the guidance of our dedicated faculty.

Each of our programs has been adapted specifically for online learning to allow both high school students and adult learners to engage in hands-on, project-based learning from the safety of their homes. Our online programs are designed to be as interactive as possible and will include a mix of:

  • Live face-to-face instruction and presentations with your instructors
  • Time for hands-on art making and projects, both independently and in small groups
  • Critique and discussion of projects with your instructors and classmates
  • Virtual studio visits and guest lectures by practicing professionals
  • Online resources such as virtual museum tours, site visits and demonstration videos

SUPPLIES

Tyler Pre-College & Continuing Education requires students to purchase supplies for their classes so that all students have access to the same materials and can learn with the same resources. For our online programs, we have made sure that any required supplies are safe and practical for use at home. Please check your individual class pages for supply lists.

ONLINE STUDENT ORIENTATION

Attending an Online Student Orientation is required of all Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 Pre-College and Adult Continuing Education students. These approximately 75-minute Zoom sessions will be offered twice in the weeks leading up to the start of your program, and are designed to help you navigate the online tools that will be used to attend your classes. We will walk you through what to expect as an online student, what resources are available to help you, and more. You'll meet our staff and have a chance to ask any questions you have before we get started! It is important to understand that you will have a more difficult time preparing for and joining your online classes on the first day of the programs if you do not attend orientation. If you are unable to attend either of the orientation times for your program, please contact us at tylerpce@temple.edu. All times listed below are Eastern Daylight Time.
