(re)Focus Festival Convenes Tyler Alumni Panel to Discuss Portraying Women's Bodies

In March, amid a Philadelphia-wide celebration of women artists, three Tyler alums will reflect on the portrayal of female bodies in art in a panel discussion hosted by Tyler and Temple Contemporary.  The panel, (im)positions - Women Portraying Women’s Bodies, will feature a conversation among visual artists Erin M. Riley (MFA ’09), Autumn Wallace (BFA ’18), and Chelsey Luster (BFA ’19), moderated by art historian and Tyler Professor Emerita Therese “Terry” Dolan, PhD.  Read More

Painting Professor Creates First Augmented Reality Experience at Philadelphia International Airport

A group of airborne schoolgirls greets travelers in Terminal F at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The young women are depicted in a mural, created by Adjunct Professor of Painting Ziui Chen Vance, in various states of jumping and raising their arms. There is a palpable movement to the brightly colored piece, but there is more to it than meets the eye.  Read More

Alumna Shows Pride through Philly's Chinese Lantern Festival

Journeying from China to Philadelphia to study at Temple nearly 10 years ago, Ellen Zhang, TYL ’17, now gets to showcase the pride she has in her heritage as arts and culture manager at the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival. Tyler Alum Tim McFarlane (BFA '94) Aims for the Monumental in His Work

As part of his artistic journey, Tyler alum Tim McFarlane (BFA '94) has in recent years veered toward the monumental.Putting his typical works on canvas or panel aside, McFarlane has preferred work at the large scale afforded him by murals and other wall-based installations -- applying acrylic paint, drawings and sculptural forms complete with silver and frosted Mylar, pushpins, nails, tape to walls and other surfaces.
