The Center’s Fellows’ Forums are open to the public and are yet another source of education about art collections. Most recently, in November 2017, Julie McGinnis Flanagan, a Temple University PhD candidate, gave a talk about New York’s Grand Central Art Galleries. Unbeknownst to most people, these galleries were a 14,000-square-foot exhibition space for the nonprofit Painters and Sculptors Gallery Association, which occupied the sixth floor of Grand Central Station from 1923 to 1952. Even more curiously, The Galleries transported art around America by train and placed it on steamships, predating the moveable feast offered by today's art fairs.
