Laura Turner Igoe (Ph.D. 2014) will assist with the development of a forthcoming exhibition, Nature's Nation: American Art and the Environment as a 2014-15 Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Princeton University Art Museum. Her recently completed dissertation, "The Opulent City and The Sylvan State: Art and Environmental Embodiment in Early National Philadelphia," investigated connections between environmental change, ecology, and visual and material culture that will be explored more broadly in Nature's Nation. While at Princeton, she will collaborate with the University's material scientists in the analysis of a cross sample of artworks from the museum's permanent collection in order to determine the toxicity, scarcity, durability, sustainability, and other aspects of the materials and methods used. This information will in turn be brought to bear on the interpretation and presentation of the objects in question in both the exhibition and associated publication.
