Joseph Kopta to speak at the 24th International Congress of Byzantine Studies in Italy
Joseph Kopta, PhD Candidate (May 2022), will deliver a paper, “Byzantine Book Bindings at San Zanipolo and Venetian Transformations,” at the 24th International Congress of Byzantine Studies, taking place in Venice and Padua, Italy. The paper, part of the panel “Connecting the Euromediterranean Cultures Through Venice,” reads specific examples of Byzantine and alla greca Venetian bindings from the Dominican convent of Santi Giovanni e Paolo within the larger Catholic-Orthodox debates of the Palaiologan period and the Dominicans’ place in that debate.
